Cranberries are the original super food! We have actually known forever that they have antioxidant properties and aid in digestion and kidney health. The antioxidant load in a cup of cranberries tops everything but blueberries. These tart little wonders are maybe the best thing you can feed a child! But, just like apple juice is not the same as eating an apple, cranberry juice is not the same as eating cranberries. It is actually worse than apple juice, which contains its own sugar, cranberry juice generally contains a ton of added sugar to break the tartness.

This actually makes sense though because eating raw cranberries is a pretty tough task. These little gems are so so tart! I tried to down a few fresh while making this recipe and whew! That is why we need to tone them down and sweeten them up without adding a ton of sugar!
