Blackberry season is in full swing during the late summer, and during those times you can find these sweet, tender berries are on sale all over the place! When I lived in Georgia, I loved picking these fresh from the plant and snacking on them as I walked through the woods. While delicious when picked fresh from the wild, they are just as yummy when you grab them from your local farmers market or grocery store too! This simple stovetop blackberry apple puree is easy to make and something the entire family can enjoy.
For most of the year, you might need a cup of sugar to eat conventional blackberries. When harvested out of season, they can be tough, seedy, and sour! The time between the end of August and early September is the only true exception to this rule, and this recipe takes advantage of that.

This Blackberry and Apple baby food is so quick and easy to make and you can store the finished puree in the fridge for 48 hours or in your freezer for up to 3 months. Simply peel and chop the apples, before adding to a saucepan with the fresh blackberries. Once combined, cover with a lid and allow to cook for about 30 minutes or until the apples have softened. After they have softened, mash the fruit together and continue to cook, uncovered for 15 more minutes. And that is it!
